Evolution on the Attack?

It seems that there were several areas of agreement Sunday and I was personally encouraged by the openness of the group to consider a somewhat contrarian point of view. However, one area that didn't necessarily get answered is why we, as Christians, seem to have this posture of general defensiveness about the idea of evolution. Why have we literally built institutions in order to fight it? Why do we see it as such a threat?
